Controlled Substances Act

On behalf of Jasti & Khandhar   |   Firm News

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has unveiled a draft proposal for having cannabis removed from the federal Controlled Substances Act. This would avoid the impact of federal laws on local state laws that have legalized the drug.

The discussion draft also includes the initiative to resentence and expunge non-violent marijuana convictions. The revenue from a new federal tax on cannabis would be used to help those who have been heavily impacted by marijuana laws. It would “pay for job training and reentry programs”.
